red bull big wave africa
Sensi Threads crew has always been very close to the local wave scene. In 1998 there were no major camps running in Cape Town, so Sensi Threads decided with a few locals to run the biggest wave competition ridden in one winter season.

Numerous entries were received. In 1999 Cass Collier and Brenton Geach won the first awards. In 2000 Cass Collier won again for the wave and Nic Bothma for photographer.

Sensi Threads provided the Springbok Blazers for Cass Collier and Ian Armstrong the year that South Africa won the event at Todos in Mexico.

The following year Sensi Threads joined Red Bull and has been sponsoring "Biggest Wave Ridden" since then to date.

Every year the event has been growing in stature, the crew at Sensi Threads are thrilled with the exposure it has given the local surf arena.

NEWS Update :

"The Red Bull Big Wave is done for the year, held in huge swell and classic conditions.

Sensi Threads Biggest Wave Award went to James Taylor, a Cape Town local...pure stoke!!!
He pocketed a tidy sum of R 30 000 for the days work.

Twiggy Buker won the event with Greg Long coming in a close second.

Dungeons have officially achieved legendary status on the world surfing map. Some of the best waves were witnessed in the final, with Greg Long scoring the perfect barrel on a 20 ft wave.

The event brought together surfers from afar and local to tame the raw energy of the ocean that Mother Nature delivered.

Praises all around. "
